Wesley Joseph operates at the intersection of cinematic ambition and contemporary urban pulse. Moving to London to pursue filmmaking, he found in the city’s undercurrent a narrative hunger that translated directly into music. His early output, crystallized in the 2021 debut ULTRAMARINE—released on his self-imprint EEVILTWINN—established a deeply textured grammar of avant-R&B and soulful future-pop. This collection was less a set of songs and more a mood document, traversing from psychedelic ballads to dense, hard-hitting hip-hop verses, mirroring the anxieties and aspirations of a generation navigating global instability.

ULTRAMARINE coalesced around a constellation of collaborators—A.K. Paul, Dave Okumu, Joy Orbison, Leon Vynehall, Lexxx, Loyle Carner, and Jorja Smith—a group whose collective energy defined the project’s scope. The music captured the specific tension of young adulthood: the search for connection set against a backdrop of societal flux.

Now, Joseph returns with GLOW, his debut on Secretly Canadian. This follow-up continues the thematic preoccupations—love, loss, anxiety, and the navigation of coming of age—but showcases a further refinement of his capabilities across songwriting, performance, and production. GLOW retains the expansive, emotionally fraught quality of its predecessor, offering a more focused examination of personal experience within a rapidly changing world.
