About

Leicester indie rock eclecticists bridging punk, Krautrock, and shoegaze traditions.

Prolapse emerged from Leicester’s indie rock underground circa 1992, operating within a deliberately eclectic framework combining punk aggression, Krautrock harmonic sophistication, and shoegaze textural density. The dual-vocalist format of Linda Steelyard and Mick Derrick enabled compositional flexibility impossible in single-voice bands, allowing simultaneous melodic and counter-melodic development. Active through the 1990s before dissolving, Prolapse reformed in 2015, rejoining contemporary indie rock conversations after an extended hiatus. Their work exemplifies the English indie rock tradition of genre hybridity—refusing categorical simplification in favor of maximalist eclecticism. The “lost generation” designation reflects their cult status among collectors of 1990s UK indie.
