Mabel Greer’s Toyshop

About

Proto-Yes progressive rock laboratory, reunited decades later to preserve early 1960s British rock experimentation.

Mabel Greer’s Toyshop represents a foundational chapter in British progressive rock. Formed in 1966, the group counted among its members musicians who would define Yes—Chris Squire, Peter Banks, Jon Anderson, and Tony Kaye—before that ensemble’s crystallization. The band operated as an experimental laboratory where progressive ambitions, psychedelic textures, and rock instrumentation coalesced.

The group disbanded during Yes’s early ascendancy but reformed in 2014, reassembling core members to revisit their original material. Their archival significance lies in documenting the pre-Yes era and the collaborative foundations of progressive rock’s complexity.
