About

Canadian-based independent EDM record label. Previously known as Monstercat Media, it was founded in July 2011 by Mike Darlington & Ari Paunonen. Monstercat currently has offices in Vancouver, Los Angeles and Singapore. It was acquired in May 2025 by Create Music Group. The label signs artists on a non-exclusive single-track basis, allowing them to freely move between other labels & brands. Monstercat follows a release schedule, where new music is released every weekday, in addition to two hour-long podcasts/mix shows (Call of The Wild and Monstercat Silk Showcase). Also acts as a distributor & publishing agency (the latter previously administered by Kobalt). In 2018, Monstercat separated into two sub-labels: Monstercat Uncaged (for bass-driven music, e.g. dubstep, drum & bass, trap, etc.) and Monstercat Instinct (for melodic-driven music, e.g. future bass, dance-pop, house, etc.). All releases still carry the regular Monstercat logo on their artworks, regardless of which label it was released on. They would later acquire progressive house label Silk Music (2) in 2021, rebranding it to Monstercat Silk. In May 2025, it was announced that Monstercat itself was acquired by Create Music Group for an undisclosed amount. In a Billboard article, Create promised they would invest $50 million into the label during the next two years. Founders Darlington & Paunonen would be moved to advisory roles, and would continue to operate under current president Daniel Turcotte. Most releases are mastered by Wired Masters.
