About
A gospel/black-Christian label division of Island Records. Once active in the early-1990s, the label prominently housed Bishop T.D. Jakes. Just like its urban counterpart, Island Black Music, Island Inspirational was mostly distributed by I.L.S., a low-budget music distributor for parent company PolyGram. In 1998, PolyGram was acquired Seagram and later absorbed into Universal Music Group. Thus, Island Inspirational and Island Black Music (alongside Mercury's R&B and hip-hop divisions) were folded into Def Jam Recordings as a fatal result from the merger of the Island Def Jam Music Group.
