About
Hollywood Records is a multi-national record label focusing on pop, rock, alternative and country genres. It was founded on January 1, 1990 and is a part of the Disney Music Group. The label is currently under the leadership of Ken Blunt. It was originally created as a way for Disney to distance itself from the "Disney" brand, and allow more mature music material to be released, similar to what Touchstone Pictures did for Disney's film market. Hollywood Records was created specifically to release music by The Party, a backronym for "Positive Attitude Reflects Today's Youth," a 5-piece music group, comprised of cast members of The All-New Mickey Mouse Club, which was also the first act signed to the label. In America and Australia, it is distributed by Universal Music Group, in continental Europe by EMI Records Ltd. and in Japan, it is marketed by Avex Inc.
