US label; also appears as "[i]Excello Records[/i]". Originally owned by [l295648]. Blues division of Nashboro/Nashboro Records. Founded by [a3691321] in 1952 in Nashville, Tennessee. Excello/Nashboro was sold to the Crescent Company in 1966 when Ernie Young retired. AVI Records acquired the label in 1980. AVI itself was later purchased by an investment group and began a reissue campaign in the 1990's. AVI was bought by Universal Music in 1997. For all unofficial / bootleg copies of this label please use [l834568] Southern entrepreneur Ernie Young was the founder of the Excello label, which has attained almost legendary status among blues and R&B fans. Young's labels were off-shoots of Ernie's Record Mart, a Nashville- based shop and mail order operation launched in 1950, when Young had already reached the advanced age of 57, after a career as a real estate businessman. 45 RPM Catalog Number, Date and Label Identification: 2001 through 2057 (1952–1955): Yellow and blue label. 2058 through 2209 (1955–1962): Orange and blue label. 2210 and higher (1962 forward): Red, white, and blue label.
