The Rentals are an American electronic rock project led by vocalist Matt Sharp, blending synth-pop sensibilities with indie rock elements. Emerging in the mid-1990s, the group gained recognition with the infectious single "Friends of P." (1995) from their debut *Return of the Rentals*, establishing themselves as innovators at the intersection of electronic production and alternative rock. After reforming in 2005, The Rentals continued evolving their electronic-influenced approach through subsequent releases including *Lost in Alphaville* (2014, Polyvinyl Records) and *Q36* (2020).
