British pioneers of commercial electronic music and sampling, Art of Noise emerged in 1983 as an innovative studio project centered on reimagining existing recordings through cutting-edge technology. The group achieved commercial success with landmark tracks including "Beat Box" (1984) and the iconic "Close (To The Edit)" (1985), establishing themselves as leaders in the avant-garde application of samplers and digital production. Their approach—deconstructing and reworking the same source material across multiple versions—was revolutionary for its time and influenced generations of electronic producers.

Art of Noise's core lineup of engineer Gary Langan, sampler programmer J.J. Jeczalik, and composer Anne Dudley created a distinctive sound that blended electronic experimentation with pop sensibility. The group became known for high-profile collaborations, including a reworking of Henry Mancini's "Peter Gunn" with guitarist Duane Eddy and a Prince medley featuring Tom Jones. Their legacy extends through their original active periods (1983-1989 and 1998-2000), with a 1999 reunion album exploring the compositional innovations of Claude Debussy through their electronic lens.
