Barry Andrews is an English vocalist and keyboardist best known for his work with post-punk pioneers XTC and the experimental electronic outfit Shriekback. With XTC, Andrews helped define the angular, art-rock sound of the late 1970s new wave movement before departing in 1979. His keyboard work and distinctive vocal contributions were instrumental in shaping the band's innovative approach to songwriting and production.
Following his departure from XTC, Andrews co-founded Shriekback in 1981, where he fully embraced electronic experimentation and industrial influences. The project showcased his evolution as a musician, blending synthesizers, unconventional percussion, and abstract production techniques. Through both projects, Andrews has left a lasting impact on alternative electronic music, influencing generations of post-punk and experimental producers with his fearless approach to keyboard design and vocal manipulation.
