About

# Ash Ra Tempel

Ash Ra Tempel was a pioneering German krautrock ensemble led by guitarist Manuel Göttsching, active from 1970 to 1976. The group's self-titled debut (1971) established their signature sound—a hypnotic fusion of psychedelic rock and early synthesizer experimentation that blended Göttsching's virtuosic guitar work with electronic textures and cosmic atmospherics. Their innovative approach to improvisation and synthesis became foundational to the broader krautrock movement.

Following the group's dissolution, Göttsching continued his electronic exploration under the moniker Ashra, releasing a series of influential synthesizer-driven albums throughout the late 1970s and beyond. His evolution from Ash Ra Tempel's rock-based experimentalism to Ashra's purely electronic compositions marked a significant trajectory in the development of electronic music, influencing generations of ambient and electronic artists.
