Buck Jam Tonic is a collaborative improvisation project featuring composer John Zorn, bassist Bill Laswell, and drummer Tatsuya Nakamura. Released on WildDisk in 2003, the double album captures two distinct creative sessions—one mixed in Tokyo and another in New York City—showcasing the trio's approach to spontaneous composition across different sonic environments. A vinyl edition was also issued featuring exclusively the Tokyo mix.
The project exemplifies the intersection of avant-garde composition and improvisation, with Laswell and Nakamura contributing their signature production and rhythmic sensibilities to Zorn's conceptual framework. The geographically split mixing approach highlights how location and studio environment shape the final sonic character of improvised work.
